    Barnett vs Horton CrossBows?

I'm looking to purchase a crossbow for my dad my question is which one is best recommended? I have a cousin who owns the Barnett Raptor FX that wont break the bank and he has nothing but good experiences with it. He killed 2 deer this year with it. However, I've been hearing a lot of bad reviews on the Barnett's durability and customer service. I was even looking at the higher end Barnetts but I'm hearing many bad reviews along with good reviews but when it comes to the Horton I hear nothing but good things. What do you recommend spending the extra cash on the Horton Legend or trying out a Barnett raptor or Buck Commander?

I have no personal experience with crossbows but have lots of friends and family with them. I know if i were to buy one it probably wouldnt be a barnett. My wifes uncle bought a cheaper one from academy about 2 years ago and it sounds like a .22 going off. The amount of vibration and noise was crazy. Comparing his to a couple of Ten Points other family have, there is a HUGE difference in quality, speed, noise etc.

I have a Barnett quad 400 that I've had for three years. They can be noisy from a shooters position, but when sitting 30 yards away with someone else firing it, it's barely audible and I've seen deer taken down with it from an observers prospective. Have put numerous deer down with it myself in the last few years with shots out to 35-40 yards....bolt speed trumped any kind of "jumping the string"..just didn't happen in my experience. Bought the quad 400 as an "entry level-see if I like crossbow hunting" type of deal. I've still stuck with it and haven't missed with it yet even with the stock scope. Its a wider crossbow with some weight to it, but also that minimizes the noise factor. Have not had to use customer service with the exception of calling Jesse to verify ideal bolt weight for that model. Log onto "crossbow nation" and see what actual shooters of the models that you are interested in have to say. My .02

Horton was bought out by Ten Point. Ten Point makes a pretty good xbow. I have owned two Ten Points with very few issues. Barnett is owned by the same company that owns WGI. Synergy Outdoors. Ten Point does one thing.... X bows.

i would say no way on barnett, i repair far to many of them and some of them broke while sitting in a stand, other while cocking others on the first shot,, overall the biggest piece of junk on the market, sure some people have had great success but the numbers who have had major problems are high,,,
anything but a barnett is what i would suggest the new hortons are indeed made by 10 point,,, dont overlook darton crossbows either they have proven to be very good durable and about the quietest on the market..
