    Help me choose! Dog thread

Well, a little over a month ago we had to put down our 7 yr old Lab. He was a fantastic dog, it was very unfortunate, we racked up some bills trying to find out what was wrong with him and it ended up being a brain tumor. Wife had to drive 5 hrs to Dallas for the mri/cat scan. I'll have to find the name because according to her the 2 vets she saw were amazing. Unfortunately surgery wasn't going to help him much and we had to make the dreadful decision of putting him down.

So, we have thought about getting a new puppy. My little girls (4.5/3) miss their Harley and want a puppy. So now the problem is we cannot decide what breed. The lab is a great breed, but thought maybe we would change it up since that's all I have ever had.

1.)what cool breeds that may less than 20lbs? We might want to go with a smaller breed.

2.) any one on the green screen having puppies soon?

3.) must be good with kids

Not opposed to larger breeds. My lab was 95 lbs and not over weight. If went with a larger breed would like them to be 75lbs or less.

You just can't go wrong with a beagle.

My suggestion would be to go to a rescue and pick a dog out. They make the best pets and you will e able see different types of breeds. I got my heeler as a pup from a rescue.

                  Beagles

Great family dogs. Of course I'm not biased or anything.

I've got a hunting buddy in Weatherford who will have Christmas pups ready for new homes. AKC from hunting bloodlines.

I agree with Froggy and I am not biased either. Seriously if you ever saw Froggy's Molly you would know why. One of the best looking small hounds I have ever seen.

There are some great small breed dogs out there. I think Boykin spaniels are neat and I love my rat terrier. However keep in mind that there is a reason Labradors have been the number one breed in the country for over 20 years. They are very friendly, love to please, and train easier than most other breeds.

We got a Boston terrier for an inside dog. They're typically about 20lbs and are fantastic dogs for family. They attach to kids/family and love to be with their family all the time. Not so good outside but if you're ok with inside animals they don't shed like labs and love to cuddle with everyone lol.

Here's our Boston. They have one of the biggest personalities of all dog breeds I've ever seen

I'm going with a coonhound. Gonna be a mix of walker coonhound and a pointer. Will let you know how it all goes. Gonna be a tracker mostly but might hunt some coons

I just had to put my Lab down about 3-1/2 weeks ago. I replaced him with a Blue Lacy female. She is 6 mos old now and only weighs 20lbs. Different dog altogether but very smart in her own way and a great personality. Learns quick and is super affectionate just like my Lab was. She is already a lap dog and very calm in the house. Out in the yard she can burn crop circles in wet grass.
The only problem I have had with her is she likes to try to drive my truck.
