    A Covey!

Spotted a covey of 15 quail at our farm in Oplin! I know this isn't a big deal for some, but this is the first covey we've seen since the 2006 season.

Didn't have a chance to take a pic, but feeling good that the population is on the rise! Hoping that this group can multiply in the seasons to come!

Rain is good for quail. Hopefully it will stay wet through spring & into summer. This would really help their numbers across the state.

I'm hunting around silver valley, not too far from you and have some birds too, probably not enough to hunt. It's been nice to hear them whistle at daybreak again, been about 10 years since I've seen quail. Funny how they can just appear from nowhere after such an absence. I think the fire ants are the most to blame.

          Been covered up this year.

Shot one opening weekend of quail season just for dinner that night. deep fried it up with the skin on and it was fantastic!

We are seeing more and more every year out west. Mostly whites but an occasional covey of blues as well.

Spent the last few days at my wife's uncle's place in Crosbyton (30 miles east of Lubbock) and we bumped a half dozen large coveys while riding around his land. He said he hasn't seen more than a few birds in the last 20 years. The playa lakes are full too and covered with ducks.

I have several coveys this year. And a feral cat that hangs out at one of my feeders picking off quail one by one.

I have a strong suspicion a coyote is going to take him out soon.

                        Quail

I hunt west of Bradshaw and the Quail population is growing steady the last 2 years. May start hunting them next year. Love me some Quail. Fried , grilled, or smoked is fine with me
