    No Heat

Gonna be a cold night. My internet diagnosis says its a flame sensor issue but I got no idea how to clean it

Don't think you can clean it . you might find one at box store like lowes or home depo.
that's what keeps gas turned on. Is pilot on or will it just stay on while you hold down the start button

Its on my central heating unit. I can hear it ignite but goes out after about 2-3 seconds.

You can clean it if its the flame sensor. Use the like green scour pads for doing dishes. They may not all be green but any way. The sensor should have one wire to it and maybe a screw holding it in. Remove it and sand it with that pad then replace it, Usually very easy to do. Do not sand it with sand paper as it will leave "sand" on the rod and it will inhibit it from sensing the flame. I take it the hot surface ignitor glows but it does not light. Or lights but does not stay lit, correct ?

Was typing while above post came in, Sounds like spark ignition. But it still sounds like the flame sensor. If you don't have the pad, you may use a knife and lightly scrape the flame sensor rod also.

Sounds right. Sometimes it is an air sensor in the exhaust vent also but I think that will keep it from ever going into ignition mode.

I just had to drive to San Angelo to fix the heat at my daughter and son in laws home. Good luck on finding a thermocouple today.

Well cleaning the flame sensor didn't work so I've got a call in to someone that actually knows what they're doing. Wasn't to bad last night......only got down to 59.
