I have a 19 month old. She said a few words at 14 months. Probably a couple dozen at 16-17 months. And now at 19 months the flood gates have opened.

This if my first kiddo, but it seems like they all move at their own pace. I would guess that being in day care is helpful, not detrimental. Ours looooves her day care program.

        No tubes

I hadn't thought of the pitch like Mary said. I might ask my pediatrician for a hearing test since she is always congested.

We had the same issue, went so far as getting a speech development person to come in and the work with her. Then it started...she hasn't stopped talking since, non-stop I tell you.

They're snowflakes, each is different. She'll be fine, until you take her hunting and she won't stop talking...

            Haha!

At what age did you get a speech development person?

Our son had problems with his speech. He mispronounced words all the time. We had him in speech therapy for a little bit. I decided that it really wasn't a problem and he would pick up on it as he aged. That was my thought, but he went a little longer just to please the wife. He just gradually picked up on things as he grew. I figured he would, it just seemed to me that he was an ordinary boy, not having a care in the world about burning up his brain correcting himself, when he could not sense that he was doing anything wrong. If all else has tested good, like hearing, etc.., I'm guessing that she'll come around on her own free will in due time. Just let it be and enjoy her as she is, if all else looks good. I look back now and kind of miss his little mispronunciations. He hasn't shut up since. Hopes this helps a little....

Sounds like you have a dead-beat husband.

Riley's infections were allergy related so might check that

It sounds like you're doing everything right. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Give her a little more time me.

I think, as of right now, I'm not going to panic until she hits 15 months. A lot can happen in four weeks, but I am concerned right now.

There's no timeline for this, don't let it stress you too much, it's hard I know.

My nephew is 2 and a half and doing the same thing. They have done every test in the book and cant find anything wrong with him. He might say a word or two once every few days. And when he does they come out perfect, doesn't even sound like a child. They started taking him to speech therapy about 3 months ago, and evidently he does well there. But when he leaves its just like he could care less about talking. We all have been worried, but seems to me he's just content on playing with his toys, and could careless about talking.

My son did not talk until 3 yrs old but could already do basic math. Took him to a Dr. and turned out it was autism, mild form of asperger's. But he cannot shut up now (12 yrs old). Talks our heads off but he does have social skill problems outside of the immediate family. Struggles with conversation with people (teachers, waiters etc). Before we go to a restaurant I have to tell him that he will order for himself, sounds weird but if I don't he goes into panic mode. But it is a working progress and requires patience.

My oldest son never felt like talking and to this day he is the quietest one in the room, 25 years old , but he is well adjusted and intelligent, When he does say something its usually pretty deep or something that he has been observing for awhile and has come to a conclusion about it. Some folks just dont talk as much as others.
