Headed to CO in a 2wd

Leaving Saturday morning for ABQ NM, staying there for 2 days, than heading to Montrose CO for another 5 before heading back to Fort Worth next Saturday.

Going there I'm not concerned, roads should be dry, but it's supposed to snow Wed. Thur. Fri. before we leave Saturday morning coming back.

We were planning to take my truck, a 2wd Tundra with AT tires, but I'm wondering if we would be better off taking my wife's FWD Toyota Venza.

The truck is way more comfortable, and I could get tire chains just in case as well. What should I do?

My father in law, who lives there, thinks the truck would be fine but put a few bags of cement in the bed near the tailgate and strap them down.

Listen to your FIL. The man knows what he's saying. And just give yourself plenty of room to stop and start.

If you're not going hunting, take the Venza.

I just got back from Taos. Had a very heavy snowfall Monday through Tuesday AM. My 2WD was useless, even with weight.

We had a hard time with a 4wd at times because of the depth.

Main roads were ok- they plow and salt regular. Steep driveways and private roads can be problematic.

We're leaving Saturday morning and heading that exact same way ourselves! We're going to Moab though. Y'all have a safe trip.

FWD is much better in snow than RWD truck.

Main roads should be no problem. I was at Wolf Creek and almost got stuck in the deep snow that fell while we were skiing. Side roads are gonna be tricky. Mine was 2wd with all terrains on at the time.

Wow, popular place this time of year I guess. I haven't been to the mountains since I was a kid. I get anxiety from time to time and so I tend to stress about trips like these.
