    Duck hunting question

Due to a change in work schedule I am now taking my daughter to school. Anyone ever get to their duck holes around 0800 and have success. This will be during the week so not many Barney's to condoned with. Just never have started hunting that late so was curious.

    Thanks in advance

You might be surprised how good you do, when everyone else starts heading back to the ramp they will bust up the ducks that are rafted in open water and push them back to you.

Good to hear, thanks for the reply. Just seems strange getting to a spot well after daylight, but it's all I can do at this point.

these last few times Ive been, we haven't fired a shot till 745 or so. birds have flown good till about 1030. I been hunting real close to where they're roosting, and catching em coming back to chill out all day, I guess.

Best hunting is typically earlier obviously but you should have pretty good luck later in the morning.

Sounds good, appreciate all the insight. Can't kill'em from the couch anyways.

It all depends on where you are hunting and that day's weather pattern but I've had success doing the same thing. Don't hesitate especially if your time allows you to go. You never know what will happen unless you are out there. Good luck!

Used to hunt some public land several years ago. We might shoot one or two ducks within the first 30 minutes of shooting time, then it would go DEAD till about 9am. Then it would be steady action until we had our limits or noon (end of legal hunting for the day). We would sometimes lay on a high spot and take a nap till around 9, wake up and start calling/shooting. lol

Thinking of reducing the spread size that late in a feeding/resting pattern. Not the most skilled water fowler, but any late morning suggestions be appreciated. I am hunting flooded ponds on public land.

We noticed a similar patter hunting public a couple years ago. We could limit out in teal early but the big ducks wouldn't start workin till after about 9. Then they would come in real good! Pretty sure they were hanging out in the big part of the lake waiting for most everyone to pack it up

At daylight, they would usually leave the big lakes and head to feeding fields or shallow ponds for feeding. That's when we would usually get a passing shot or two. After feeding for the morning, they would come back to the big lakes to "loaf".

weather will play a big role but one thing is for certain, you aren't gonna shoot a limit from the couch.

you'd be surprised how could you can do when everyone else picks up and heads in.

I've killed a ton of birds between 8- noon, they sometimes come to rest after going to feed in the rice early.
