Thinking of maybe buying a piece of property outside of Ozona. I've never hunted that far west and was wondering what the green screen thought. My dilemma is that I'm not sure of the caliber of deer is and two do you scarifice buying closer to home let's say within an hour. Or do you go up to twice the distance for more land for the money. For anyone that owns his own place, how far do you travel and what would be the max travel time? Thanks

There are some really good bucks in the area and if you buy in the right area around Ozona you will have mule deer as well. You won't the amount of deer your used to seeing in the Kerrville area but there are plenty of deer. Just make sure the place has water. That's just a hop, skip, and a jump from Kerrville.

I haven't look at what's for sale lately. But a lot of the place are the subdivision. Northwest of Ozona toward Iraan and Rankin you find the Mule deer. But out that way to are a lot of big ranch that ain't for sale and stuff north of Ozona toward big lake and barnheart are University lands. I bought my place 30 miles south of Ozona (not in the subs) but I live here. What's good about south is chance of seeing exotics better, less new oil field activity and general less people out side of deer season.

We own land 5 1/2 hours away. Could have bought closer ,but enjoy the country out there. We moved out one county when we started looking and prices dropped by 1000+ dollars an acre. We didn't look that far out to get more land, just happened this place was what we wanted. As far as the drive you have to make that choice. I can jump in my truck a drive 6 hours without even thinking about it. If you don't mind driving look further out too. If not stay closer so you can enjoy your place more often. We go at least twice a month an 3 times a month is pretty common. I have driven out there the night before & hunted for 1 day and came home.
