Really simple to swap. I bought some fittings called shark bites ( I think) no soldering only took a hour after I got the new one home.

You water heater should have two shut-off valves. If you shut both of them off at least you can turn the water back on to the rest of the house.

I came home from deer camp with the same problem today. Just got done blowing 500 bucks and changing mine out about a hour ago, good luck.
