Face to face, cash transactions. If you have a sim card, you can put it in the new phone and send/receive a call before you buy.

My son does it all the time for AT&T, he's destroyed over a dozen. The last one he sent back to AT&T under the new phone warranty and it was refused. I called for him, they said it was broken, the screen cracked, and it had "bite marks" on the phone. I'll have to ask him about that in a duck blind this season.
