I build websites and do graphic design make hats etc (cuernosgrande.com)for some deer ranches, outfitters etc. On most jobs I barter my services for hunts rather than get paid money don't get me wrong I like dinero...but Im queer for deer took 2 bucks over 200' last year. I have a full time job and do this on the side...so Im able to justify bartering as hunting can be expensive.
Have few hunts this year. My first one took place last week on the Back Porch Ranch in D'Hanis, TX. We were going to hunt a 160-170 class straight up 8pt we covered almost the whole ranch never saw him..Seems like we got slammed with rain since I arrived we still hunted in the rain and mud till it got way to muddy. (Disclaimer: 2 pairs of boots were completely soaked as you can see in the LDP I am wearing New Balance as some will be quick to point out...haha) Last evening hunt my buddy tells me this deer is not gonna show and I want you to whack something we have several management bucks I need to get rid of lets go find one. Right before dark we wheel in as far as we can to one last feeder but its to muddy we decide to jump out and treck it on foot. We get to where we can glass the feeder and we see a big bodied deer and make out that it's another big 8 buddy says take him. I am able to creep my way into the blind so I can have a good rest...After double checking and opening the door one last time are you sure whack em? He has his fingers in his ears and says ya thought you were shooting....ha.. So I settle back in and lay the smack down on him. He ran about 20yrds and drops.. We finally get up to him and my buddy says oh *****..and he has mass for days and few extra points we didnt see he ended up scoring 155" and weighed about 225 on the hoof. Ill post the rest of my hunts on this thread if you want to tag along.
