    Interesting non-resident license question/thoughts

So....here is an interesting thought I just had. The purpose of the hunting licenses in your state is the distribution of the deer/turkey tags. Being...when you buy the license you end up buying the tags. In other states...you buy the license only to buy the privilege to hunt sans any tags which are bought separately after a drawing, if applicable, or over the counter.

The NR license doesn't have any tags attached to it unless you buy the full up license, again, to buy the tags. You need tags to tag the deer you harvest and a NR couldn't tag his/her deer without a tag.

That being said...could a NR hunt a MLD property and tag their deer with the mandated MLD tag without purchasing their own tags and having a special hunting tagless license? At that point, the NR wouldn't need his/her own tags because one would be provided for them. I read the rules and see what they said...but it could be argued.

    Just a thought...

Good thought. I'm guessing you would need a hunting license no matter what. Then the mld permits are "free".

I recently bought tags in Missouri. I had to pay non resident which prints out as a tag that can be used for either sex. I had to buy an additional doe only tag. Pretty confusing. I think TX licensing is easy, though I've never hunted anywhere else to date.

If I remember correctly, I had to buy a license and then a separate tag (once drawn) for Arizona. I think Arkansas out of state license prints out with your 6 deer tags.

From what I was told, a Non Resident could buy the standard "basic" hunting license and use the ranch MLD tags.

A non-resident needs a general non-resident hunting license to hunt MLD property in Texas.

What license is available to non-residents to hunt deer?
The only license available to non-residents to hunt deer is the General Non-Resident Hunting license for $315. This license is also valid to hunt any legal bird or animal. Stamp endorsements apply. See Hunting Licenses.

No tags needed in Alabama for NR, just the license. Kill em and chill em.

Right...because of the included tags. The Nr hunter in question doesn't need those tags, one will be provided.

              See what I mean.

Right...because it doesn't come with tags. In this case, the tag is provided.

It doesn't come with tags because you it's not valid for deer on any ranch. If you're a NR and you want to hunt the state's deer then you gotta pony up $315. When they say not valid for deer they mean not valid for deer. It doesn't say not valid for deer unless you have a MLD permit.

And its not valid for deer because it doesn't come with tags. A hunting license in bought in order to hunt, period. You buy tags in order to get your share of the allocated quota per hunter.

The argument could be made that since tags are provided, by purchasing a hunting license....the legal requirements have been satisfied.

If all you needed is a specific hunting license, then why are you limited to the amount of deer you can kill? That is what tags are for.
