    Axis Size

Me and my dad are going hunting opening weekend. Our package is axis buck and doe, with the stipulation that the buck is 29" and under. Over is an extra $500, which isn't a lot considering, however, us there some sort of trick to "eyeballing" an axis as far as horn size? This is not guided, so it's kinda on you to know. Any help?

If you have never hunted or seen them in the wild a 28'' is going to look like a monarch to you. To be safe I wouldn't shoot anything you thought was more than 15-20 inches past the brow tines or more than 6-8 inches past the caudal tine. Good luck. I would search some threads to get an idea as well.

This axis is 30 1/8".... I will dig back and see if I can find some pics of 29 and less that I've killed.

If you're really wanting a wall hanger, don't worry about if it is over or under 30". Just take the one you like. Worry about the cost later.

Good advice! Anything over 29" is worth the additional $500 IMO

If I remember correctly, this one was right at 29 inches.

First one is 27" on good side.

                  This one was 30-31"
