Sounds like a knee jerk typical California reaction.

The problem is that the car is what I would call a "smart" car. If you have it at idle it is ok, and if you put it on a 2 wheel dyno it is ok. The car changes its tune on the run if all 4 wheels start turning. On a 4 wheel dyno is when it fails the epa emissions.

Bought my wife a '14 Jetta TDI. It's 20 months old, and has 40K miles on it. 6 months ago we thought about refinancing it, but didn't because it was worth $19.5k, while I owed 20k on it at the time. I looked up KBB on it last week, and about crapped my pants. $14,467 is what its worth, private party, Excellent Condition. I'm $5,000 underwater on that car.

As long as the dealer doesn't sneak in a computer update on me that screws up the 45mpg, I might can stomach it. If they force an update down my throat I'm going to be pretty upset.

I hate lawyers, and really didn't want to do the class action thing... but if the real value has plummeted that much, I'm considering it.
We have a '15 that is in the same boat. We owe about 19k and its worth about that but I'm worried about the continuing decline in value.

It was a great car up to that point, but about the same time the DPF cracked, the AC lost all it's freon very unexpectedly and we never could figure out why. So I told the VW dealer to take that POS off my hands and find me a Toyota. That's how I ended up with the Rav4 I have now, and I don't regret the decision for a second.

That was long before this scandal was first reported, so that news made me feel even better about my decision. I felt I was taking a big hit on the trade-in because of the cracked DPF, but looks like I was going to take that hit anyway, so I'm glad I have had 2 years of completely maintenance-free driving since.

What I didn't know was that all the TDI's before 2008 were the ones you wanted, and the ones after that had this DPF issue. Lesson learned. If I had bought a pre 2008 TDI, I'd likely still have it.

My 2009 is doing the same exact thing.

I just read the settlement at www.vwcourtsettlement.com. Looks like I will barely break even with mine.

I'm sure we will all get hosed.

We will probably wait as long as we can and do the fix and drive the car until the wheels fall off.

We are going to keep ours and forget about any recall notices
My wife has no intention of letting anyone " fix " her car

If I wasn't looking at $13K in repairs on it right now I would keep it but hell I still owe $12500

waiting patiently to hear what they are going to do for the larger engine. I haven't decided what we are going to do yet.

2011 JettaSportwagen TDI here, just paid her off and we're waiting to see what they might offer for a buy back...Fantastic little car, just wife's ready for something bigger (Prolly an Explorer) we never went in with those class actions...the dealership sent out a post card oil change advertisement with a 50$ off anything...the card also said something to the effect of, "word is coming about a settlement or fix" from VW...I'm not gonna go for the "fix" and have them install a DEF system or anything like that, just gonna wait till we see what the buy back is worth then take it and run maybe...

We got our claim settlement paperwork yesterday.

We can come out pretty solid selling back or fixing

                      Vwcourtsettlement.com

It will give you value of your vehicle plus restitution values.

Now that the judge has signed off on the settlement does anyone have any inside info as to when the buyback will actually begin?

I dont expect anything for a few more weeks at least since it was just approved yesterday.
                          And still no approved fix

We have an appointment to meet with the lawyers on the 20th or 21st. Can we expect to give up the car that day and get the loan paid, or is this just a formal negotiation and we don't get anything until we schedule another appointment kinda deal?

I met the adjuster at the dealership and filled out some paperwork and surrendered the car right then. They paid off the loan by the end of the month
