New rules on CWD - voice your opinion

    Folks, PLEASE VOICE YOUR OPINION

This is not that hard to do. I'll walk you through it because more volume of responses is needed to make an impression on the Commission. Remember the power of the opposition.

Here's all you have to do. 1). Click on the TPWD link below; 2). Enter your name and county in the blocks and if you hold a hunting or fishing license; 3). Scroll down to the end and check the circle that reflects your opinion; 4). Click on Submit.

Now how hard is that? DO IT! Free Range hunting needs your support because..........

This Thursday, Nov. 5, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will consider adopting new rules regarding the transport and release of captive deer. Emergency rules have been in place since August after deer at a captive breeding facility in Medina County were found to have Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). CWD is a fatal, neurodegenerative disorder that affects deer and elk. The rules are proposed to prevent exposing Texas' wild deer herds to CWD.

Please go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department website and express your SUPPORT for the rules being considered by the Commission.

To submit your comments, which are due before 10:00 am Nov 5, go to https://tpwd.texas.gov/business/feed...eder_cwd.phtml

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is responsible for all Texas wildlife, including deer. TPWD regulates hunting to maintain the state's deer populations at a level that is healthy for native ecosystems. Only a tiny fraction of deer hunted in Texas are supplied by captive deer breeders. The Texas Deer Association, which represents many of the breeders, is fighting the new regulations. The regulations have been carefully crafted to protect both wild deer and deer at captive facilities

j/w but how will this affect people who own LF ranches in Texas?

Maybe I misread but I didn't see anything affecting 95% of us thru this proposition

I read the entire thing and noticed that TPWD is doing a pretty good job of compromising between the two extremes and coming up with a plan of action that creates a bit more boundaries. The classification systems can get confusing when reading, but when you break it down it all makes sense.

The only thing I disagree with is the conformity to USDA testing. I think live tests are a viable alternative that would allow all deer to be tested and allow negative specimens to be released and used as either replacement deer or release deer, thus reducing the overall economic impact.

That's just me. Everyone has their opinions, and that's what makes this state tick. We all have done a good job so far keeping hunting safe in the state, and I think we are definitely doing the right things moving forward.

You will care if the issue is not handled correctly and your native and wild deer come down with CWD.

It specifically talks about releasing deer on high fence ranches only. It affects everybody who deer hunts in Texas.
