    Dissolved iron in well water

Anyone dealing with removing dissolved iron from well water?
The well at the ranch just got reworked by the guy running cattle on the place and I am wanting to run a line to our cabin.
Growing up out there we always dealt with rusty clothes and sinks, showers and commodes.
There was a potassium permanganate treatment system on the well at that time but it is long gone as is the old house. I remember it being a pita to keep in performing correctly, but it has also been 30 years ago.
I heard that there are now iron removing filters. Anyone using one of those?
For now this system will be for light, occasional use.

Heavy iron in our well, irrigation only. Have done lot's of researching on it and pretty much hosed other than aerating, introducing oxygen. For my purposes any filtration would be cost prohibitive. Good luck !! Get ahold of some local well companies for advice.

What if you run it into a tank and put magnets on the bottom of the tank? Then take the water off the top 2/3 of tank? I mean magnets attract iron like bears to honey.

Having the same issues with the house we recently purchased. I am looking into a system to take care of this now and trying to decide the best option. Something along the lines of the iron breaker III seems to be pretty common.

You could try getting a holding tank, mixing in some aluminum sulfate (you can get at the pool store) and letting it settle. Pump out of the tank for your needs. Of course you would have to flush the settlement out of the tank bottom regularly but that should be possible through the drain.

I just installed an "On The Go" water softener on my camper at the lease. Makes a huge difference. Soap lathers up and my GF's long hair doesn't get tangly. Also, the shower and toilet don't have rust color water stains. This is well water near Kerrville.

If its not too bad you could use a sofener. They also make a iron filter that works like a softener, as mentioned about get a 500 or so gallon tank and the iron will drop out.
