    Ducks on my pond

So i bought a new place a few weeks ago, the pond has had water in it but as of today it has a lot of water in it. Been moving things over there today and each time i drive up there are about 10 ducks flying off of it. I do not know duck at all and was wondering, are they just passing through or if left alone will they be here for awhile? I didnt see any green heads and thats about the only duck i would recognize

If they don't get too much pressure and have something to chew on I'm sure they'll stick around for a while. We always see lots of gadwall on farm/ranch ponds.

If there's food and cover there, they'll hang out for a while, more than likely they use it as a rest stop.

If you want them gone, I have all equipment necessary to relocate them to my freezer haha.

If you want them to stay and hang around, plant food in the summer and eventually you'll have a few resident ducks.

I have no idea what they would be eating. Although the tops of some of the weeds are barely sticking out of the water after all the rain. i sure would nt know what to plant.
I guess i could become a duck hunter for about 10 minutes.

Yep. If left alone they will hang out for a while or the next front blows through. Freshly flooded ponds with newly flooded areas are great for ducks. There is more food down there than you think.

I hunt a lot of small ponds get there 20min before shooting time throw out 6 dekes and get ready they usually show up 1 or 2 ducks at time it will take about 30min to a hr for all the birds to show up sometimes they don't show up at all sometimes you shoot and miss and they will come back within a couple of minutes. I like to hunt ponds with at least 20 birds but sometimes smaller groups make for a good shoot. Find some other ponds in the area to hunt and you will get hooked it is really fun. Also don't bump the birds off the pond if you are going to hunt them the next morning.

I will probably have to leave them alone for now. Be nice if several more come over. The bad thing is the pond is about 60 yds from the house. But the dam prevents me from seeing the water.

Get a pic of them if you can and post it. The closer, the better. And we'll get an ID on them.
You might wined up with several species through the winter. And it's a good way for you to get to know your ducks.
