Made my second hunt this year on a conquest for a good Axis buck with a bow. This is the SEVENTH year I've been after these spotted ghosts and have yet to connect. I spent four and a half days this time with only a couple encounters. This guy came in the first evening but never gave me a shot. I sat eight hours each day the next four days and didn’t see another one until last night when a smaller one started to come into a water hole but in typical Axis fashion decided to detour at the last minute and walked out of bow range. Did enjoy some beautiful weather and saw some nice whitetails along the way. I will be back.

RT, keep at brother. That is a stud axis. The closest I've been to an axis buck was 2-3 yards on median @ 80mph on IH-10. True pucker factor.Comment

This is a high fenced place but the Axis population is not real high, especially for quality bucks. I haven't even considered the rifle. Wouldn't be the same. I HAVE considered sitting out on a moonlit night with my bow, though.
