    Reading a hearing test.

Anyone know how to read a hearing test. She told me my hearing has not changed in the last 2 years. I got my 5 year old hearing aids updated a little. That I have not worn much.

I forgot what all this means and forgot to ask.

You have moderate loss in the low tones to severe in the high range. Mine chart loops kinda like your but on the high range I completely deaf.

It shows your hearing at different sound levels vs frequencies. You're able to hear low frequencies pretty good, high frequencies not so well. Its common that the high frequencies are the first to go in men.

You have a loss in both ears. Frequency is across the top, "loudness" is down the LH side for each ear. Normal hearing you would be able to hear sounds at less than 20 decibels, which would be shown as a line nearly straight across the chart at 10-20 db line. You can't hear it until it gets to 40-50-60 db. Then as the frequency goes on up, your hearing gets worse (sound has to be louder to be heard). Since normal speech is 200-2000 Hz at around 65-70 db, and your hearing level is around 40-60 db, you probably have a tough time, especially in a loud environment (think restaurant like Chilis). And, with the greater loss at higher frequencies you probably don't appreciate music either.

If you think of that line of Xs and Os as resembling a check mark, that is the classic sign of hearing loss due to exposure to loud noise which damaged your hearing. From your avatar pic, you are about my age and you also have some loss due to the normal aging process.

You mentioned you don't wear your aids much--but I suggest you wear them--although they don't replace all the loss, they do help a bit.

So--how do I know all this? Well, let's just say I have a disability for which the VA provides my hearing aid. Been there, done that.
