    Flying with a bow case?

Is a bow case 62 liner inches? I am going to Ohio to hunt Big Whitetail and Spirit Airlines only allows that size as a check in. Anyone ever fly Spirit with a bow case?

You will likely have to check it in as oversized luggage, and potentially pay a fee.

Spirit Airlines is the leading Ultra Low Cost Carrier in the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America. Spirit Airlines fly to 60+ destinations with 500+ daily flights with Ultra Low Fare.

Simek is right...just another revenue source for the airlines.

Linear inches is a term invented by the airlines and is the sum of the length plus the width plus the height. Most hard cases are ~40" x ~20" x ~10" or ~70 linear inches.

I've never been charged extra by an airline, never flew spirit though. Just be prepared for an extra charge.

        Where and when you going?

You know I have flown all around the US and to Africa a few times too. You aren't required to declare your bow like you are with a gun. If it's in a gun case they will want you too. I have always flown with my bow in a soft case inside a rolling duffle with a hard bottom like this one http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...DeviceOptOut=1
My Z7 fits really well in the bottom I put it in a well padded soft case that's like 1" think and then put it in the bottom of my rolling duffle. The idea being I don't want to make my bow a target for baggage handlers or PETA or who ever. I prefer low profile and no questions.

Flown all over with my SKB hard case and never been charged extra. Not much you can do about it if they do. Can't hunt without your bow. Good luck.

I used to travel a lot with my bow and the last few years I got to the point where I would use a golf wheeled travel bag. Put my bow and arrows and all my hunting cloths around it.
No baggage fees, no anti hunter messing with it, nobody trying to steal my bright yellow golf bag

Generally, sporting equipment, skis, golf clubs, gun cases, etc... are exempt from oversize baggage fees.

This. I've traveled with my bow case several times and the airlines never measure it.

I don't have an answer to your question,,, but good luck on your hunt.

If possible, do a live hunt for us mortals. If you can't, update when you get back, please.

The real issue lies with who you are flying with. AA, Delta, United for example probably wouldn't charge you any differently than a normal checked bag.

Spirit however charges you to print your boarding pass, check bags etc.

As far as shipping goes, FedEx can be trusted but I wouldn't send it 3-5 day. Look into priority shipping however that may end up costing you the same amount that the airline wants.
