One more Strike Force trailcam question

I apologize for yet another post about this Browning Strike Force 10MP trail cam. It seems to be working great now, but I'm still a little unsure about something. The picture below was taken at 6:42, as you can see. They're nibbling on some leftover corn, apparently.

Cam is set on 30 second delay. Took a bunch of good pics over night.

The feeder went off at 7:00, 20 minutes later. I checked at 7:30 and it was all eaten. No picture!

The distance to that feeder is about 30-35 feet. It's supposed to have a IR detection range of 55 feet, "average." Do you think that deer under the feeder is too far off to trigger the IR? Maybe it's only the deer walking past right in front of it that triggered it? If so, I guess I need to move the cam closer. This feeder was mobbed at 7:00.

How high up do you have the camera set?

It's about 32-33 inches off the ground, on a tripod hidden inside a cedar. The cam is level, aimed straight out. The feeder is on a slight downhill slope, so the cam is aimed roughly 2-3 feet below the bottom of the barrel. Seems like that would cover it.

I would think it should pick them up, but maybe try moving it closer one night and see if it does better. If so, then maybe it as too far. Mine is only 10' or so from the feeder so I can't be much help in how far it will pick up movement. But that sure doesn't look too far to me.

30-35 feet? Looks a lot farther than that. 30 feet is only 10 yards. That makes the deer under the feeder look like some sort of pgmy deer if it's only 10 yards.

move camera to 25' and it will trigger many more pics

I'd move it closer... Even if you get a pic of a deer under the feeder you won't really be able to tell what he is.

Nope, it's exactly 35 feet - I taped measured it. There are a couple of very young deer with this group, the "pygmy" is one of those.

Crap. No tree trunks nearby, I have to hide it on a tripod in one of those cedars. The only one I could put it in is that one on the left, barely 10 feet away. I'll see what I can do.

I put it in that cedar you see directly behind the feeder. It's a little over 20 feet. If that doesn't work, I'm in the Twilight Zone...

Derrik: t-post is a great idea, but it's too rocky out here. Also, the cows love to walk up and rub against stuff.

Will have results tomorrow a.m. Got my fingers crossed!

that camera is way too far from the feeder!

                      Simple answer and fix
