    Identity theft?

So someone somehow got into my att account and changed all my information and upgraded and ordered a phone to Coral Springs Florida. So I called the fraud department and the lady said that whoever ordered the phone has at least the last 4 of my social and more than likely the rest of it.

So I signed up for the credit watch and all that through equifax as far as I can tell that's all they have done.

Of course I'm freaking out thinking of what they could do to my credit and who knows what else with my ssn. The phone they ordered is in Fort Worth headed to Florida. Att won't pursue catching the people. they said if I want to I could press charges. But would they ever get caught? Does anyone know?

Is there anything else I should be looking out for?

Call att back and password protect your account.
Be sure transunion and experian don't look fishy
      Check you bank accounts
Check your credit cards statement online
      Get Lifelock

Did all of that don't have any credit cards just a bank card checked that changed passwords. And signed up for the credit watch deal through equifax and locked my credit down.

It's crazy we wouldn't of known for at least a month if they had changed the art text alerts to mistys phone.

Would you press charges? Is there any possibility anyone would get caught?

Yes I'd press charges. Who knows if they are picked up on a traffic stop and the LEO runs a wants and warrants on them and finds your complaint?

This is crap, ATT should be able to track the phone if it is ever activated, or even to the address or PO box it was sent to. But I guess that's what they have insurance for......

Yes, depending on the price of the phone it could escalate the charges if ever caught, sadly it doesn't seem people like this ever get caught.

Put a permanent freeze on with the three credit bureaus. This will prevent anyone from opening a new account under your name and social. Of course, if you go to buy anything requiring credit check, you'll have to temporarily unfreeze.

Your local PD for identity theft. That way you have a paper trail should anything else happen. Shows you mean business to creditors who try to ding you in the future.

We already had LIFELOCK and about three months ago some scum bag tried to take out a pay day loan in Indiana in my name but the application was caught by Life Lock who contacted me .
They did an investigation and I contacted the three credit bureau's and flagged my accounts . No damage was done , no bad marks on my credit , no money was ever stolen but I have to thank Life Lock for their quick action they took .
I have no idea how these scumbags got any information about me but man I have to tell you it's spooky . I will end with this . PROTECT YOURSELF . It's well worth the money and the effort .

Life Lock is expensive. Zander ID Theft Insurance is every bit as good and cost $13/ mo for you and your spouse.

I'd be curious to find out HOW these people got the information to change your account and order a phone. Changing your account indicates they somehow broke into AT&T. I did hear yesterday that the new Iphones have already been hacked.

Ask AT&T what address they sent it to, and get some buddies to go on a road trip.
