Hunting the Rut in Burnet County

I'm on a new lease this year between Burnet & Bertram. I'm planning on take a week off this year and try to hunt the rut. I have heard with this full moon coming up on the 27th that it should start the bucks a chasing. My original plans were to go the Fri. 30th - Thurs 5th, but now Im considering Fri 6th - Thur 12th. I was there this weekend and the buck that I'm seeing on camera are still grouped together.

TPWD shows the breeding dates peaks around 11/6 for East Edwards plateau 11/27 for Central Edwards plateau. I believe I'm right there in between the 2 areas. Anyone have any suggestions on when I should go

    Thanks for any help

I'd keep my original plans if I were you, but it could be raining Fri and Sat...Sun-Th would be primo. Especially if you have some pretty regular does that are coming in. I shot a buck the last day of bow season 3 years ago and one on Nov 6th two years ago, both on does. I hunt between Burnet and Lampasas. Also, I'd hunt first week because after the fireworks of gun season, the does get much more spooky and in turn don't bring the bucks in as effectively. Good luck, hope you get a good one.

Zero activity today on the far south side of the county. Ten does/yearlings at the feeder and not a buck to be seen.

I wouldn't worry about the moon phase; it has absolutely nothing to do with the rut starting. It might make deer more or less active during daylight but that's it. The timing of the rut is based solely on the length of the days (daylight hours). I haven't hunted the Burnet/Bertram area but have hunted Central Texas quite a bit. They are usually chasing by the end of October/first of November.

This! moon, rain, fog, etc has no bearing on the rut, on a side note rut aside I actually like full moons because i prefer morning hunts and my experience is that the deer will move multiple times in the mornings when we have a full moon.

My buddy hunts in Burnet. None of them bowhunter and he says they miss the main part of the rut every year.
