    Deer mounts are infested..PLEASE HELP

Hey guys I need some help. I noticed some weird spots on a couple of my deer mounts and after a thorough inspection, all of my mounts are being consumed by a little white moth. When I looked closely, I found little egg sacks and even some tiny larva squirming around. They have eaten lots of hair off my mounts!!! Has any one ever dealt with this before? I've researched online and I am now vacuuming all of my mounts and freezing the ones that will fit in the freezer. I think I have a line on a safe pesticide spray but I'm looking for all the help I can get!!!!!!

    Thanks in advance

I had a bobcat mount that was not cleaned properly and ended up getting infested and I had to throw it away. I ended up removing all of the carpet/rugs in the areas where the mounts were (I have hardwood floors), bug bombed the house, and treated each mount with a pesticide. There is a taxidermy company that sells a spray that I ended up using. When I get to the house I will take a look and see what it is.

        Good luck!

If they're on all your mounts, you need to have the whole house fumigated.

Unfortunately, the damage, to the mounts, is done.

That sucks! Had something similar happen to some mounts in my dad's office. Not quite that bad though. We put them in big trash bags and then sprayed a bunch of raid into the bag and tied them off. Seemed to work pretty well.

Most of these mounts are several years old....10 plus or more and I've never had an issue!! Thanks again for any help!

American Wildlife Taxidermy in Humble. Not sure about tanned or dried preserve...calling them now! Here's what the bug looks like....

Mckenzie Taxidermy has a product called "mount saver" that will take care of the bugs on your mounts and prevent future ones. You might want to take pictures of your damaged mounts and talk to your taxidermist about getting new capes from a processing locker that may be similar, though I don't know if you will find a processor that will take the time to try to find a specific cape, they are usually pretty busy when the capes are available.

That looks like a clothes moth.
                          Obviously, still devastating.

Will any of the over the counter fumigators work?
