    Anyone else notice this.....

I have been recuperating from some thyroid cancer issues so I have spent a lot of time watching hunting shows. I see a trend where more and more "professional hunters" are shooting deer after dumping a big pile of corn or a bag of some kind of attractant concoction. Fair chase? That's why Meateater and Fresh Tracks are my favorites. Just an observation.

Part of hunting is outsmarting what your hunting and if putting out an attractant will help you outsmart your opponent, then I see nothing wrong with it. If it is legal it is fair chase.

Define fair chase, in a way that everybody can agree upon then we can ask if bait is fair chase.

I have hunted in a lot of different situations pursuing several species. I have run across some specimens of elk, pronghorn, sheep, etc that had never seen a human and acted very "dumb" in my presence. Fair chase, right? They didn't run away as I walked up to them in plain sight within bow range. Wasn't fair because they didn't know my intentions and were fully informed, right? I have hunted axis under high fence that ran for their lives the moment they saw a human and provided one of the most difficult stalk hunts I have been on. But that wasn't fair, although they ran away and knew I posed a threat because of a little old fence a few miles away they could jump if really motivated to do so.

As long as it's legal, who cares? A lot of folks are getting carried away with this whole fair chase thing and are dividing fellow hunters instead of focusing on issues that really matter.

Hunting shows are advertisements. They will use any products that pays the bills. That's why you are seeing more "buck in a bag" usage.

Correct..... If there was not money to be made from sponsors their would not be any shows...

To me fair chase is anything that is legal. Now as far as hunting over a feeder. I see zero things wrong with it but it sure does bore me now. That's why I took a break from the Texas lease scene and hunt public out west.

No different than hunting over a food plot.

Most have become infomercials pimping products from sponsorship

Yeah, I just use a few bags of corn. Some of these guys use the whole dang corn field! Can you believe it!

                          Best answer so far!!!

It always makes me laugh when non-Texas hunters complain about Texas using corn feeders to hunt deer because it's an unfair, unnatural advantage.
But they have no problem hunting over the only trail leading into a huge planted food plot.

                            Perfect.

I get so sick of hearing about fair chase. Because like you said, everyone has a different explanation of what is fair chase.
