My dad drive in from Louisiana to come visit and brought his crossbow with him. I put him up on stand a little later than i would have liked but tried anyway. 10 minutes before last light, i get a text that he shot our hitlist buck.
Buck was broadside and he said the shot felt good but the buck spun on the shot. He heard a loud crack (presumably broke a rib going in) but the arrow had no blood at all. I can tell by the milky greenish water on the bolt that it was all gut. However, there was no stomach contents, grass, leaves, nothing at all. Deer hunched up with his tail curled and bound a few times into the brush. He never really ran. Typical of a gut shot wound.
What part of the gut could he have hit if it was straight liquid? No blood, no food. We searched for hours and came up empty. I figured a 4 blade muzzy would at least left part of the gut along the trail somewhere? Is this shot survivable?
