Texas Lake and Isabelle are pretty good public lands for pheasant, as well as waterfowl

We hunt the garden city area and surrounding towns. Lots of public walk in hunting. And as others have suggested, just ask the farmers. Lots of them will let you hunt.

I've never been but been studying it because I'm there myself man wanting to do this. I called the Kansas Dept of Wildlife and they sent me their info with a map of all the WIHA (Walk in hunting areas) "While 2014 moisture was too late for pheasants to realize the full benefits, the timelines of spring rains this year created excellent conditions entering the nesting season. Rainfall in eastern regions was extremely heavy and limited brood survival but overall increase precipitation had a positive impact on production, which combined for a statewide 51 percent increase in the summer brood counts compared to 2014."
They go on to say that the top areas this year will likely be in the Northern High Plains (northwest) and Smoky Hills (northcentral) regions. All their regions are still in drought recovery but improving according to their reports.
The Southern High Plains and South Central Prairies shouldn't be over looked either. They seem to have a lot of WIHA's and sounds like a hoot to be able do. Hope this helps.
