    Police

Im wanting this thread to serve two purposes, number 1 lets hear your good stories from being on patrol. Number 2, do you regret becoming a cop, are there anythings you would do different? Would you personally advise someone to go into the academy to be a leo in this day and age?

I am have been seriously( past couple years) been thinking about going into the academy to become a leo and or get my tclose cert. Any advice, or thoughts?

    Don't regret it at all.

    1-go on some ride outs

2-goto a Department that pays for your training and pays you salary while in academy

I don't regret it. I've worked both city and county. County is where it's at for me. Going on my 8th year.

By far my best story? I have come home to my wife and 2 daughters for over 15 yrs.

Absolutely ZERO regrets. I still believe that being an LEO is an honorable profession.

Biggest regret most have that have too much time vested is that they didn't become a fireman

Absolutely zero regrets as far as getting into this incredible rode of a career. There is no way I could do a job where I'm doing the same thing day after day after day. Every day is different and you can't predict what's coming. That's what keeps me here. 99% boredom, 1% absolute mind blowing adrenaline. I love it. My wife loves it. My kids love it. I could go on and on.

The best part is the brotherhood, no matter the dept, rank, state, etc. I bleed blue.

I just retired from Austin PD after 24 yrs, 2 mo's. I had a good career but it was time for me to get out. I felt like things had changed way too much and I missed "the old days" and "the way we used to do things". However, I remember hearing the same thing from the "old guys" when I was new, so I guess it's normal to feel that way once you've got a lot of time in because things are always changing.
It is a good career if it is for you (like Glen said), but if it isn't find something else; you'll know after a short time. Austin PD is a good place to work, they're hiring, and the pay is as good as it gets, with a really good retirement system.

^^^^^^ This, and most importantly, MAKE DARN SURE THE DEPARTMENT YOU GO TO WORK FOR IS CIVIL SERVICE...

No regrets & too many stories to tell....

I have a huge regret. I wish that I would have started earlier. I applied at 27 and hired a week after my 28th birthday. Nothing wrong with that but another 3 or 4 years on my current retirement would have been sweet.

I start my 33rd year in January.

After putting in 28 yrs for SAPD and now seeing my oldest son Chane working for Midland pd I would suggest you get on at smaller city like Midland. Seems like larger cities you get lost in depts. but larger depts. have better benefits . I been retired for 13 years now. ...Andy
