Would you just re-serve this? Or be patient and wait?

I bought a new 16 strand B50 string for an older bow (steel cables with teardrop type attachments for the string) on Ebay. Only cost me $9.25.

The center serving is nowhere close to being in the right place. It's short, and too low no matter which way you turn the string (it's right in the middle of the string, not biased to one end). If I attach my nocking point to it as is, I have less than 1/16" of serving above the nocking point. That won't work. The serving will unravel - I guarantee it.

So I emailed them - two days ago. No response. I'm thinking I probably won't hear from them, and if I do, they will want me to ship it back to them. Probably not worth it.

I have Halo serving thread (.019). I practiced re-serving the old string that was on the bow, and I did a pretty decent job.

I'm wondering if I should just reserve this brand new string the proper way, or if I should wait to see if they contact me about it. I'm trying to get this bow up and running for a new archer I plan to give it to, so I don't want to wait too long.

    Thoughts?

    All the best,
    Glenn

There is only one way to learn. Build or buy a serving tool. Once you learn the knots and how much tension, it is no big deal. Watch a few videos on utube first and it will be easy.

Sounds like you may have a Bear Whitetail Hunter. I bought a pristine one for $20. I have shot it about three times over the years. Worst hand shock of any bow that I have ever picked up. I keep it around for a conversation piece.

I would reserve it, and not order strings from them again!

I would bet you can find a youtube video to walk you thru reserving.
