If you are calling the searching period the pre rut that is a very good time to hunt. Lots of movement taking place.

Activity picking up behind my home in The Woodlands and will probably continue through the weekend. Last couple years its been around the third week in October through about the first week of November then again a month later. First is most intense as the season goes on it slows down due to to fewer does needing to be tended. Some young ones at the very end of season.

Where are you in rusk county?

This is pretty much what we see every year also +/- a couple days. We are near Elkhart in Houston County. Last year it got heated up a few days earlier than normal.

Just had a good friend send a text from stand in Trinity County. He is retired and gets lots of stand time in.... Just now he saw the first sign of chasing (in this case a good 8 point chasing a doe). This kind of falls in line with whst is typical in that area. This weekend will be good.

Haven't seen any chasing , but three bucks I know were hit on hwy 59 last night within a 5 mile stretch. It's a bad/ good sign that rut is close to kicking off around here.

Definitely an indicator. Funny... I have observed more deer standing on grass near 59 this summer and fall than ever before.

They are still a little off for pre-rut activity from what I have seen this week while hunting. The teenagers are being teenagers, but the big boys don't seem interested just yet. Even have some older age class deer still tolerating being together.

I am guessing another week or two before things get 'serious'. Seems to be running a little behind this year.

Bucks are wide open in places. 3 different chases seen today with bigger deer. I had one buddy tell me he has 3 different 5.5 year olds show up on cam in daylight in last 3 days

Starting from now until the next two weeks should be primed. Couple that with a new moon in a couple of weeks, people should get to see a lot of the rut action. I think the rut happens the same time every year, it's just a matter of other conditions if hunters see a lot of activity ( moon phase, mast crop, weather, etc). I talked to a game warden on Tuesday and he said they are starting to see bucks hit by cars on the highway, so it's starting to get good

Found the first scrape of the year in Anderson county. Put a camera on it.

The Rut happens at the same time every year. Now rather or not you see it can depend on a lot of Mother Nature elements.
