And Diamond did her first hog track. Saturday I shot my first hog with a bow. Good size boar. Not a good shot. I watched him wander off and then lost sight of him. I called for the dogs. Before the dogs could get there I spotted the hog down in the broom weed not 25 yards out. We decided to go ahead and run the dogs because neither had seen hogs before and we wanted to know their response. Being as we knew where the hog was and for sure dead, we dropped the dogs with no leads. Both pretty much to a bee line. The only real difference was once Diamond found it, she was like yeah so what. With deer she becomes very protective of here deer.
Sunday more hogs so I shoot a good size Sow. I find my arrow. A complete pass thru and good blood but no blood on the ground. I go get Diamond take here back. let her out on a lead and off we go. 75 yards she finds it pretty much straight out but no blood on the ground. This one could have been found by a grid search but I am still working my dog every time I get a chance.
That is 3 animals in 2 weekends, it looks like our changing leases is a very good thing. Only draw back so far, is it takes 10 to 30 minutes to get to camp and then the same to get the dog back out.
