    Memory Foam Mattress

Any of you guys have a memory foam mattress? We are going to get a new mattress and possibly a memory foam. I have been doing some research and found that there ARE alternatives to Tempur-Pedic. I wonder about them being hot?

We have a memory foam topper from Sam's that was given to us right now on top of our old (and I mean old) mattress , but we are thinking of getting the whole bed.

Not interested in what everyone has "heard" about them but actual experience.

I've had a pad on top of my Select Comfort air bed for a few years. The foam eventually wears out, but it's comfortable while it's good. I need to replace the pad now, I've recently noticed.

I wouldn't trade my air bed for anything though. We bought the one that didn't have a pillow top pad on it. Liked the firmness at first, but then put the memory foam pad on top. Great combo.

Shane, I was thinking that a new regular mattress and a new, thicker topper might be the answer; just buy a new memory foam topper whenever the old one wears out, and we might try that...haven't thought about the air bed.

        Funny, AgHntr10, funny!

I recently got one of the 4" toppers to help with my old worn out mattress. It's nice, of course thats compared to springs digging in my back

All in all it isn't as firm as I would like but I do sleep well.

I gotta say, the air bed was the best money I ever spent. It is really nice to be able to adjust the firmness/softness. I don't make changes often, but every now and then it comes in handy. Also, my wife and I can never agree on a mattress. With the air bed, we have separate chambers that are independently adjustable. She sets hers to her liking and I set mine. It's like having two twin beds without the cold floor space in between.

I have the Tempur Pedic and don't really care for it.I was told if you wake up with back aches it would take care of it WRONG.I don't find it hot, my wife also doesn't like it because she weighs about 100 pounds and said she doesn't sink into it.

                  berandel,

                  i suppose you're not interested in a Tempur-pedic ?

in my experience , the TP is the only mattress that has minimized my back pain and allowed me to sleep comfortably at night.

we had a Simmons pillow top, and Sleep Number bed before the TP. They were both comfortable but my back pain seemed to get progressively worse.

I've slept on the Tempur for 3 years now and I feel much more rested in the a.m., and my back pain is more tolerable than before.

best of luck in your mattress search since everyone has different comfort levels

My wife and I recently went to a memory foam mattress, Contour-Pedic is what I think its called. It is great. We had a good pillow top mattress before but this is way more comfortable. What is amazing is that no matter how much you toss, turn, or get in or out of bed, your partner can't even feel it.

I'm with Shane. Wife's had sooo many hip surgeries and hip and back pain was constant. Sleep # fixed her. One big drawback, if ya go somewhere its difficult on a regular mattress

Well, this is what I heard

Brad Pitt once said the best mattress is a regular firm mattress with a foam topper. I agree.

I had my doubts, I must admit, about trying these memory foam toppers. The only thing that changed my mind was reading a recent GQ magazine in which Brad Pitt shared a few things he thinks every man needs to know. Among his tips was the following (I'm paraphrasing): "Buy yourself a 3" thick Tempur-Pedic mattress topper. Trust me on this one." Well, I decided to trust him, not sure why, but for some reason he seemed like he would know.

A quote from Brad Pitt on the perfect mattress in the October 2006 Esquire magazine:

Don’t spend a lot of money on a big, giant mattress with double padding on both sides and all that. Just go out and buy a normal firm mattress. Then go buy the three-inch Tempur-Pedic pad, the memory foam, and put it on top. I’m telling you, take my tip. It’s the perfect pressure. I take full credit for the discovery. You will sleep in bliss forevermore … unless you’ve got a six-week-old.

Straight from a rich person’s mouth.

Cajun, a Tempur-Pedic is not out of the question. At this point I am just trying to decide if you guys like yours; then I will decide which one to buy.

JTS, since it was Brad Pitt, it's okay! I am conjuring up a vision....

I am not a fan of the memory foam mattresses.....when I get up out of them I feel like I just made a mold for those waxed gorillas they sell at zoos.....

                              They sleep hot as well...IMO...
