I got to watch the coolest thing Saturday moring while in the blind. I had been watching these two squirrels play for a while and was amazed that they were playing less than 5 yards from the pop up. After watching them for about 15 minutes, I see a flash and then leaves flying. It was this bobcat attacking the squirrel. She grabed it on the neck and just stood there right out of the pop up. I finaly relise I need to get my bow and try to shoot this bobcat. Anyway now I need a cheep taxi. or some sugestions of wehre to take it. I don't really have the money right now to get it mounted but feel that I will regret it later if I don't concidering that I got it with my bow and seeing all this unfold less than 5 yards from me. Do you know if there is a taxidermy school, or someone learing the trade and need a project, around houston that would posibly do this for less money than a experianced one. I will take my chances on having it messed up for a cheeper price. Becuase there is no other way I can afford to have this done.

I'm getting mine done at B&B. They let me pay a deposit on it when I dropped it off, and then I'll pay the remaining when I pick it up. That helped to offset the cash I'm spending because they quote anywhere from 10-12 months to get a mount back right now, and I've been able to save up for the last portion.
Still not superbly cheap, but they do good work and it's worth the investment.
Edit: Congrats by the way, that must have been some sight to behold.

Might try contacting Scott Smith in Caldwell. He has mounted a coouple of deer for me and has my whitetail and mule deer from last year. He is learning the trade and turning out some very nice mounts!

That musta been a cool sight to see. Congrats on the bobcat!
In regards to the mount.
Expect a pretty hefty price tag from anyone that knows what they're doing.
If it's worth mounting, it's worth mounting right ... don't price shop on this, you'll regret it later.
Find a taxidermist that you like and pay him to skin and tan the two critters, pay him for that, and then save up the money for the mount. OR pay him/her a little every month rather than paying the 50% deposit and then the balance. I have several clients that would rather do it that way.

I agree with Texastaxi 100%!! Dont base it on the $'s. Find a taxidermist that mounts cats like you like and use him. Explain to him about the cash flow and he should work with you. At least get it skinned now. It can stay frozen for many months, than you can have it tanned. A wet tanned skin can be frozen for a year or more with no problem. Stretch the $'s out so it does not hurt so bad.
Remember, Christmass is comming and tell you family and friends you would like donations to the "Cat Fund"....
By the way, congrats on a wonderful trophy and what a great experience!!
