3 Day Live North Arkansas Bow/Muzzleloader

I came up to the inlaws camp last night and I'm staying through Tuesday evening. Due to work schedules, kid's birthdays, etc, it'll just be the FIL and I this go around. According to him the bucks are starting to lay down some pretty good sign so maybe we'll get a couple. I've got my bow and my muzzleloader with me, not sure what I'll use.

I'm about to walk out to a ladder stand over a bear bait and see what happens, but I'm only deer hunting. Pretty chilly up here this morning and not much moon last night so we'll see.

I'll try to post some updates and pictures if anyone cares to follow along!

Their place is on the south fork of the Spring River just north of Salem, Ar. and about 7 miles from the Missouri border (Fulton county). Rolling hardwood ridges with hay meadows on the creek and river bottoms. The old pastures have been allowed to grow up and were planted with a perennial wildlife mix several years ago to benefit the quail and turkeys. The timber was selectively thinned 5 years ago and they do rotating prescribed burns on parts of the place.

There are lots of turkeys and the deer herd is very healthy, but it's not a real monster buck producing place. Anything over 120 or so would be a pretty nice buck. I think there have been 2 deer in the 150s killed on it over the years. The self imposed rule here is 4 points on one side and outside the ears.

The surrounding areas are definitely hunted, but not completely hammered. There are a lot of deer in this county, probably a few too many in a lot of spots. I've heard three shots this morning and only one was very close. Dead still and crisp so I can probably hear a LONG way on top of this ridge.

I'm climbing down after being busted by a herd of does. Blah!

We have to go work some new calves this morning at their house. Yall can wish me luck for that more than hunting haha! FIL is very particular about how he does it and I am no expert cowpoke. I'm bracing myself for the "look" after floundering around on the ground cutting these things.

Hope you see a bear & get a deer

Yep that's not too far from us!

5 new calves. All heifers thank goodness so I didn't have to embarrass myself too bad working them. Back at camp now thinking about where I'll sit this evening.

                        Thanks haha!

Taking the stick and string. Going to sit in the woods in a little draw I walked through earlier above a pond. There is a lot of sign in there so maybe some will come through.

I scouted around this afternoon and found several squeaky clean scrapes. The wind is blowing and leaves are falling pretty heavy so I may sit all day tomorrow on one of those scrape lines.

Cool, that sounds like a great spot.

Are you on the ground or in a tree stand?

Got some hens coming through scratching acorns. Looks like several. 75 yards out and feeding this way.
