    Average Draw length?

I was at my local archery shop and wanted to shoot a bow I was interested in. He asked me what my draw length was so he could set the bow up. Told him I wasn't real sure but I thought it was around 26. I'm 5'11". He kinda looked at me funny and said no prolly more like 28-30. Measured it and Sure enough...it was slightly over 26.

Since I'm new to bowhunting it got me wondering a few things. do I not have proper form to get an accurate draw length? Do I just have stubby arms? He said the draw length and form looked good. What's the average draw length for a person my size? I've read the wingspan divided by 2.5 rule. Is this accurate? And will this make a difference to what bow I should get depending on axle to axle measurement? Sorry for the newbie question just trying to learn from the experienced!

I would think 28-28.5" are the most common

archery shop owners and bow technicians on the board can confirm their real world experience

I think a lot of people shoot too long of a DL from what I've seen. I'm 6'4'' and have a 29'' DL with a d loop.

Everyone is built different. I'm 5'11" and measure out to be 29.5", but I shoot a 28.5" more comfortably.

He told me too short was better than too long. I've read where ATA measurements may feel different depending on your draw length. Something to consider before I buy?

That was me. I'm 6'5" and was at 30" with a d loop. Would wear an arm protector often because I would get string slap often. Finally shot in front of a tech and he told me my draw was too long. Changed to a 29" with a loop and it's a thousand times better for me.

gorilla arms? your smack on average,, mathematically 27.6, the great majority of people I have check at 5'9" do shoot 28" as for the 27" being short most people at 5'9" would also find it short

27.5-28.5" are the most common true lengths, or at least what folks should be shooting. I see a lot of guys that bring bows in running 1" to sometimes 2" longer than what they should be.
