    To late for food plot?

Wanted to put in some food plots this fall but could not get my hands on a tractor and disc. Just found out a friend of mine has what I need and is up for letting me take it up to the lease. Is it to late to put a food plot in this year or should I wait for spring. My plan would be to head up next weekend and disc and put out seed. Looks like we have several days calling for rain. I hunt up in Runnels County between Winters and Coleman. With the lack of rain not sure if I planted any earlier anything would have come up yet anyway.

Not too late. A few years ago we drilled 9 acres of oats in September and had no rain until January. After season we had a nice stand of oats.

I think you will be ok. It's been so hot and with no rain new shoots were burning up in the heat. I had to rent a water trailer to keep water on my plot. It's just a acre. I put 4000 gallons out.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll have some tractor work going on next weekend.

I say it's never too late.

Many times I've seen deer on a plot or just freshly disced ground within a week or two. Remember, fresh growth of whatever is usually their favorite.

I can't do food plots due to cattle but every time the rancher runs a disc across the ground if we have any rain on it the deer will hit the edges every evening. The biggest benefit of hunting a corn field, free food plot.

Not too late. In fact everyone who already planted are probabally wishing they waited!
