IMO, Utley was doing what all BB players are taught to do ..... Slide into the second baseman to break-up the DP. Happens all the tight unfortunately it resulted in a broken leg for Tejada

This attempt by Ultley (vs. SD) to break-up the DP is totally uncalled for since he's clearly out of the base path

The slide vs. Tejada was not even close to this bad

Dirty. Wasn't even a slide, just a take-out play. He doesn't even make a veiled attempt to touch the bag, doesn't go down until at the bag, and then he stays high with his torso. I don't think he intended to break Tejada's leg, but he could have actually accomplished his purpose with a clean slide and sweep under.

Would not be surprised if this play leads to rule changes just like Buster Posey's broken leg at home led to changes about sliding in there. What Utley did isn't even legal in the NFL.

Bunch of whiney babies. Back in the day they used to sharpen their cleats for slides like that. I guess we should put them in full protective gear so they don't get hit by the ball while batting either

It was dirty. Had he started his slide before he got to the bag I'd have a different opinion. Bottom line is if you have rules to protect catchers the way they do then you have to protect middle infielders as well.

Breaking News: Joe Torre agrees it was dirty. Utley suspended for games 3 and 4 of NLDS. Furthermore, as I mentioned, rule regarding middle infield plays is being discussed for possible modification.
