I have been hunting with a compound for 25 years and really don't remember the last time I missed a shot. Picked up a recurve a week ago and have been shooting every day. Decided to give it a try this evening because I thought I was ready. Man was it a rush! Had a nice 8 at 19 yards. Waited for the perfect shot and flew it just over his back. Guess I need to practice from 20 feet up a tree instead of flat ground. I think I might get hooked on this traditional thing. Gonna give it another try in the morning. Funny how your equipment effects how you think. I went from being very selective on what deer to harvest with my Z7 to just wanting to kill anything with this crazy recurve.

8 years ago i sat in the rain all day trying to get my first shot at an animal with my new recurve. About 4 pm a big ugly old 6 point slowely walked in.
He was about 15 yds, i slowely the 55# bow back and let it fly!
As the arrow flew over his back i sat there with the biggest grin on my face.
That 1st shot, even though i missed was one of the most exciting shot i had ever taken.
It was so profound that i have only taken my compound back into the woods 1 time since.
Your on your way to a long term relationship with traditional hunting

Going from wheelie to trad is indeed more difficult than one might think. Like you, I'd been shooting a compound for decades when I decided to try a recurve again. (I used to shoot one pretty good in my youth before I got target panic).
Well, it's taken longer than I thought it would, but one thing has helped immensely, and this is something you can do without anybody else's help, including mine. Here's the procedure.

I know how you feel. I missed a big doe at 15yds yesterday morning with my longbow. The shot looked real good up to the point she ducked the arrow just when it got to her. Went about a 1" over her back. I just switch to all trad last year. I've shot one hog with mine and this is the second deer I shot at. Both ducked the arrow. But I'm bound and terming to not get my compound back out. I have all of this week off to redeem my shelf. I just got to get it in my head to aim a little lower.
