    Bucks in Rut already?!?!?!

I am working down in El Campo for a pipeline project but I am staying south of Edna at Lake Texana - Brackenridge park. Yesterday evening when I got to the camper, we saw a doe walk about 5' from my truck followed by a buck. He had one thing on his mind... Chasing Tail! I personally have never seen rut happen this early. Have any of yall seen it this early?

PS... Jackson County hunters, Get ready for this weekend!

A guy at our place saw a little 2.5 yo 4 point mount a doe and try to do the deed last weekend. Right before he got it in she gave him the heisman.

Not so sure. This might be the get ready-stage. Then seek. Then chase. Then lock down.

I didn't get it on video but she did let him mount up for a good while later on. I had already stopped recording by then.

The rut always happens early down in this area. It happens even earlier where I live.

They always rut early in this area. Sometimes before bow season opens if we get a cold front. It's the nature of the beast in this area.

They said that the bucks would rut early this year. Not surprised really. Deer numbers are up across the state.

The youn g bucks typically start ging crazy a few weeks before the more mature bucks...which is when the actual rut starts

Yep! Last weekend in Victoria county (next to ya) we saw little bucks starting to push around does. I'm out at Texana pretty regular and they usually start pushing early October and in couple more weeks will be full blown! That's a fun place to camp. Some pretty decent deer roaming around the campground.
