we're moving into our new house next week and i've got to construct some sort of a fence to contain my sons beagle. we're going to ultimately build a privacy fence next spring, but for now i just want to get something to contain the dog that won't cost thousands of $$. i was thinking of getting some hog panels and Tposts at tractor supply. any better ideas?

Good luck with that...my neighbors had a beagle that even a hot wire couldn't contain. That dog would hit that hot wire a couple of times a day trying to get into my yard to play with our dogs(don't think he was a real smart dog). Problem is, our dogs didn't want to play with him. They wanted to eat him. Hahaha. Just make sure that beagle can't slip through that hog panel. They're pretty wirey dogs and might be able to get through it.

Keeping a Beagle in a pen is next to impossible. The hog panels will not work they will just slip right thru. Had the same kind of pen ended up having to put barn metal around it to keep him from going thru. Then came the problem with climbing up and over. Those little dogs can get out of anything. But I sure do like them have had 2 in my life and both hard to deal with.

i thought about a kennel, but i'm afraid he'll still dig out of it. my current yard looks like "white trashville" with all the crap i have to do to keep him from digging out. for some reason though, lining the bottom of the fence with landscape timbers has really stopped him digging. i just hate to have him confined in such a small area.

Good, thick wire.....since they tend to chew the other lessor wire. How about a zip line set up that he is connected to? He can run the whole yard but not able to get to neighbors.

Pet Safe
We have a Corgi who likes to roam. We bought the wireless Pet Safe system at Tractor Supply for $300.00. No wires to bury. We followed the directions and in 3 days he learned the limits. The collar beeps about three feet before it shocks him. It only took a few times and he hasn't left home again.
Here's a link.

To keep our beagles in, we just went to Home Depot and bought some cinder blocks, then we buried them all around the edge of the yard. The got down about 2 inches and then hit cinder block. Works awsome!! Plus the blocks down degrade. Another good tactic is to make up a batch of paprika, habenero, and chili powder then sprinkle that around the edge of the yard. They only gotta get into that once.
