How often should you change your string?

My string is 4yo now and I don't have any ssues with it. I keep it waxed so it stays in good shape.

Is there a rule of thumb for replacing a string or do you just wait for signs that it needs to be replaced?

My rule of thumb is 2 years.

        I've heard every 4 years.
As long as you wax it well and when needed, I say when it starts fraying.
I had a hoyt that the strings were 8 years old on it. Still looked new.

But they have a shelf life just like everything else.

I have had mine on 11 years, very minimal wear (I have probably shot an average of 50 shots per year during those 11 years) bow always kept in padded case indoors. still holds at #70lbs and flings an arrow right on target even after all these years.

i keep thinking i should change it out, but its dialed in, plenty of power and i don't have the time to re-tune my bow.

Ive heard any where from 2-4 years. That said I went by the shop in July to see about getting my Heli-M restrung. Its two years old and I shoot 40 or 50 arrows a day, 3 or 4 days a week starting about august. When the season opens I cut back to 20 or 30 arrows a week.

Shop said my string was still in good shape and did not need replacing. I was waxing it fairly often but they said 2 or 3 times a year unless it gets carried around in dust all day

I've had mine on for 5 years, waxed really well. I too shoot 100-200 shots a year through it and it's holding up fine. I've taken it to the bow shop and they say it's still fine.

I just replaced my string on my assassin, it was 4-5 years old and it was about time, the loops that connect to the cam had started to fray

It really depends on how much you shoot and what conditions you encounter when hunting.

I shoot about 300-400 arrows a week and change mine every year; that comes out to about 18,000 shots per year.

I also hunt in some pretty dirty conditions; clawing through wait-a-minute vines, crawling through dirt, sand, mud and rain all take their toll on strings. Specifically in the string tracks of the cams/idlers and the string/post loops is where you want to be careful and inspect frequently to detect early failures before they happen.

Bowwiz just had his string break on him during a hunt when drew his bow; it was four years old and well maintained.

Err on the side of safety I say.

Yep,string broke at full draw.Happened at 7pm.Had new strings built and bow shooting at 10am.
I broke my own rule.Change your bowstring every 3 years, even if you don't shoot alot.
