    308 Ammo

Sorry, I know this is not a bow hunting question....

I finally pulled the trigger on an AR10. I ended up going with the Armalite and put a 4.5-14x 50mm Ziess scope on it. Now I need to find some good factory ammo for this deer season. I eventually plan on getting hand loads made up, but being that it is so late in the game there is not time to do that.

So what manufacturer, bullet type, and grain weights should I be looking at? I have reloads done for my other rifle and I use Hornady SST's and they are awesome, but I need something fast and I have had no experience with a .308.

    Thanks

I have used either 150gr Monarch or Winchester in soft points with good success. If you plan to shoot longer distances get heaver bullet. The two mention are a little less pricey than others with the same results.

First off..congrats on the gun. I envy you! I have seen the Winchester and Remington ammunition fired first hand and would say that either one will get the job done..my cousin probably shot 30 hogs this summer with the Winchester and all were recovered. Whatever you hit with them(if in the right spot of course) WILL hit the ground.

Do you have an AR10 or a bolt gun? I heard from someone that the AR10 will distort the softer bullets when it cyles...

Thanks! It was not easy to pull the trigger on that rascal, but the upcoming election pushed me a little quicker than I really wanted.

Now all I need is a little sporter AR15.

I bought it to just have it really, but it's nice to carry something a little different to the stand every once in a while. Plus it will be a nice conversation piece with all the old timers!

I was using Federal Premium switched to Winchester XP line a few years ago and really like them.
