    Baby snake hatch numbers?

Anyone know an average number of snakes in a hatch? Just curious because I killed 2 baby copperheads last week. One under the car port and one in the back yard Came within a foot of stepping on the second one. Glad it was only about 10 inches long. It was pretty cool so he was moving slow as well

It varies anywhere from a couple up to sixteen or eighteen... Put a chicken in the yard .

Not all snakes are hatched, a lot are give live birth.

      All pitvipers give live birth!

        Knapper is correct.
Caught a 5' eastern diamondback 25' from my front door 2 years ago.
Month later she gave birth to 13 babies all about 12" long.
Have heard of bigger litters often.

Depends on the type of snake. Anywhere from 4 to 8 is average but they can have up to 20 or so.

Yep, depends on the snake. Pit vipers give live birth, the baby copperheads are just out eating cicada nymphs

                  Baby snake hatch numbers?

How many? I'm going to guess somewhere around 'too many' and 'way too many'. I killed two prego rattlers two years ago about a month apart. One had 23 'eggs' and the other had at least 15. I wasn't going to reach into the hole I blasted her in just to pull the rest out count 'em.

                  Sorry TallTexas...

That's alot of babies for one snake to be carryin. I've seen plenty of Prairie Rattlesnake litters all piled up together and usually there's anywhere from 8 to 13 babies. I've seen 16 in a group before but that's about the most I can remember seeing.

There like pigs, 10 are born and 15 survive.

These were found under a bushog about 2 weeks ago.
Was told there was 30 something babies, but I can't find that many in the pic.
Guy who found them is friend of man who works for my cousin.

Had a neighbor who said they killed a rattlesnake and buried it to keep the kids from getting on it. A few days latter her boy came running in saying that there were snakes coming out of the ground. She went and looked and there were little ones coming out where they buried the snake a few days earlier.

Two seperate hatches it looks like. They're both female snakes so that's my best guess. Its a shame they all got killed. Canebreaks are awesome.
