    Knife makers: need help

My dad has an old folding Kabar knife that belonged to his grandfather. It's in pretty bad shape. The old pearl handles crumbled and fell off. The knife has a certain sentimental value as grandpas knives tend to have. I'm looking for someone who's willing to take this knife down, polish, and restore it to as good as it can be. Dad said it had pearl handles then, but said he'd like to put a pretty burl wood or something like that on it. He didn't know where to begin on a project like this so I thought I'd help him out. If at all possible I'd like to give it to him for Christmas, but if that's not an option...it can wait. If anyone can help please shoot me a pm with a price for your service. Thanks!

I'd love to help you out but I don't mess with folders and wouldn't want to mess it up. bump for you though.

He's not on this board, but you might google Muskrat Man. His real name is Caleb/Kaleb something. Not a project I want to take on.

Hope you find someone to do it. I've got one that's the same way, and all the knife makers I've talked to say that it's really difficult to do without damaging the knife because they have to knock the rivets back out and completely take it apart and then fit it back together. Those old Kabars are cool knives.

Thanks for the Muskrat Lead, looks like he's battling some health issues, and not accepting any inquiries until after new year. Anyone else would be greatly appreciated.

There might be a few guys on knifedogs forum that do refurbish and rehandling. It would be nice to see dressed back up but I don't do any refurbishing.

For sure! I'd absolutely share that with the group. Along with a recommendation of the artist.

Look on Tradgang.com. They have a knife making section and maybe someone there will take on the challenge.

Contact Slade Ingram,Ingram Cutlery,he's got a website, this would be a snap for him. He has rehandled a couple of knives for me and done an excellent job.
