    Hebbronville: Information Needed

I just accepted a job that will have me in Hebbronville off and on for the rest of hunting season.

I know a few of you hunt down there, and wondered if any of you wanted to get together for Food & Drinks somewhere.

Also, are there any restaurants that I must eat at while there?

Any must stop "photo oppertunities" around there?

I'm down there every december on a company quail hunt...

don't know the dates this year.

I have never been out and about in the town. They have always fed us there at the ranch. Maybe I can break away for some "town" lunch

Our ranch is 20 miles from Hebbronville and I am there a lot. Not much there, I hate to say and WATCH your speedometer going through town!!

I love a BBQ place called Avila's. When you can get'em, ask for the smoked sweetbreads as a sandwhich. Incredible and the only place I have ever had them. All I can say is get there early and their breakfast tacos are fantastic as well. Rudey and Bones will back me up on this place and the owner is a cool guy.

There's a home cooking/burger place on Main that is pretty good. There is a Drive-Thru Beer Barn in town . I haven't tried the newest BBQ joint yet, but have heard mixed reviews so far.

There is a pretty good little authentic Meat Market on the left as you get into town that will hand cut steaks and has some good local meats, aujas and such.

Nice, old Catholic church, if that's your faith. 2 hardware stores. 2 Grocery stores and a Dollar General. Couple of banks and a few fast food places, but there's really not much there.

      Hope this helps.

If you find any good places, please let me know.

      J.P.

Oh, and yes, if I'm headed down, let's get together for a beer.

Photo ops are plenty, some in town, old buildings, cool cacti, old ranch hands/cowboys. Lots more opportunities in the brush. There is a TON of game down there.

Used to hunt there. Go to Marie's to eat. Can't remember what the plate's called but it's thin fajita meat with cheese all over the top and they make fresh homemade tortillas there in a big machine. Dam good. There's an old place in town where a lot of the hunters go. Can't remember the name. He might be dead now, but the old mexican guy that owned it would dance around it on Sat. night. I wouldn't eat there but the beer's cold.

I believe you speak of Paco's. Self serve beer and a pretty darn good steak. Have no fear, the food is pretty good and fairly reasonable. Last time I was there was near the end of quail season.

Thanks for the information, any more info folks?

I hear they have allot of the elusive Kangaroo Rats & the occasional Mountain Lion!!

My son is learning to shoot his bow, so I'm definately going to make sure we do some Kangaroo Rat hunting while we are there
