    Buck decoy during the rut?

Thinking about packing a buck decoy with me to Archer when I go hunt the rut this year with stick and string...anybody use them with much success?

I like the doe decoy better. Ive had success with a laying down doe (just took the legs off and stashed in Johnson grass) and little doe urin. Worked well in Three Rivers. Good luck.

I religiously use a buck and doe decoy. They will stop about 99% of the deer that are on the move. It is a blast to watch.

I use a doe with lots of success. Every deer will at least stop and look. I've had bucks come up to it

so it sounds like the doe deke is in the lead. I'm thinking of a couple spots, one on the edge or the wheat where the deer enter and exit the field and the other on a pipeline leading from a bedding area to said field. Is that an alright place to set up do y'all think? Also do you use calls or rattling in conjunction with your doe or buck decoys? I'll be hunting heavy right after Halloween to opening rifle weekend.

I have ever had success rattling. I am sure it is probably my lack of experience. Only time I use a call is if a buck isn't even looking and is on the move. My place in ne Texas is a flat pasture so I will put the buck in a position where he is watching over a bedded doe. My place in Caldwell county is a relay wide opening with a hill in the middle so I will put the buck on one side and doe on the other.

Be advised - there is one whitetail buck decoy out now that rivals the size of most Mule deer. It is freaking huge. Selection is limited. They are expensive but worth every penny. If you have cows don't leave it out overnight. They will destroy it. I have to run them off every time they come through when I have the decoys out. They will get about 5 feet from it and just stand there and stare.

May have to try one of these out this year when the rut turns on and give it a shot!
