Need suggestions for a good tent to camp in while hunting

So I hunt public land, which means that I'm usually camping at the designated camp sites and driving to my spots where I walk in. Last year I used a $45 tent, and while it was a dry place to lay my head, it got pretty cold when the temps dropped to the teens and it was cramped. I don't wanna spend more than $100-$135 dollars. It doesn't have to be the nicest tent or the lightest. Just big enough for me to put a cot bed in and have some room to store my gear in when I go hunt. Any suggestions?

Before you spend money on a new tent try these tips out. I have noticed that if you put a blanket or even towels under your air mattress/pad and one on top before your sleeping bag or sleeping blankets you stay much warmer. Always put the rain fly on your tent up. The morning dew will sap all the warmth from your bones and it will give more protection from the wind. Also a sleeping bag will keep you much warmer than blankets.

I just swapped over from a tent to a hammock (95% of the time I hunt by myself )and I love it. It's faster and easier to put up by myself. They even have under quilts that go underneath you to insulate you from the heat stealing wind and one that goes over top of whatever you are sleeping in. Maybe you could try that.

I still use the same old kind I did when I was in boy scouts. Easy, light, efficient, etc. I get it all set up, take a picture, the set up my hammock and really get a good nights sleep. Good call Helm Crusher. I had enough of all the creatures liking to crawl up in my tent with me. I have no ever had one in my hammock as I leave it upside down until I am ready to get in it.. No bueno if you do not have trees...

What do you guys do about rain with a hammock? I've got a down quilt already I use for elk hunting, how much would an under quilt and hammock set me back?

If you want to stay with a tent, check out the newer "quick up" tents. Look at a 4 man, they literally go up in a few minutes. Everything is attached and you just spread it out and pop it up. I got a 10 person tent and put a queen double height air bed, a 2'x4' table and chair in it.

I hunt SETX and East Texas so we have pterodactyls for mosquitos here. I got my hammock with built in mosquito net for about 40. Just a starter one till I can save up and get a higher quality one that fits me. I'm 6'5" 225lbs so it's hard to find one long enough for me.

They have rain tarps you can buy or you can make one yourself for rain protection. I just run another rope from tree to tree and stretch a green tarp out over it like a boy scout tent.

I found an underquilt on Amazon for $99.

I got tired of the roots, critters, sands, leafs and general long process of 1 person setting up a tent. I recently just thought a hammock would be nice for the summer camping trips then I discovered the world of hammocks and will only use a tent when I have a family down the road, or if the terrain has no trees.

Checkout the Hennessey Hammocks. They usually run Black Friday and New Year's sales. I got mine for 50% off last year. Comes with a rain fly and everything else that's needed. No under quilt is needed with a good pad and quilt/bag.

Sleeping on an elevated cot allows cold air to get under you. Use a good quality sleeping bag and get on the ground

I've got a neoair lite pad and 0* enlightened equipment quilt. The pad is noisy though, and I thought I'd sleep better on the cot.

My favorite usually ends with "inn and suites".. Beats the heck outa hot-cold-wet-bugs-varmints-no shower, etc. etc. etc.

Every cheap tent I tried never worked out. We camp in West Texas and down at Matagorda Island in the winters and pretty much always expect miserable wind and rough storms down there. Obviously not in your price range but a good investment as it will last many many years is the Cabela's Alaskan Guide model tents.
