And finally the good stuff. My saturday morning hunt at my Val Verde County lease was preety uneventful, as I only saw about 5 deer. After a little comida, me and a buddy decided to go see if we could spot and stalk any Aoudad or Corsicans. We headed out and the first stop we make to glass I seea group of 10-12 aoudad bedded up in the very bottom of the canyon at about 1500 yards. We make a plan to drive the Ranger to a road that wouuld come out closer to them and then try a stalk. We stoped on the other road 3 times before we found the right spot to begin a stalk. I saw them at about 500 yards still bedded up. At first I could tell there was a mch larger bodied aoudad than what the rest of the group was but couldn't see his head b/c of the over hanging cedar limbs. I could only see 4 of the aoudad and knew that there was more in teh group so after a little more glassing and searching I finally found the ram i wanted to try a shot at. I moved down the canyon a short ways when they saw me and began to spook. I had to sit down against a large rock and rest off my knee for the 350 near verticle shot. As he started to head into some thicker brush in the creek bed of the canyon, I squeezed off my cannon. The ram dropped in his tracks and the rest of the herd headed up the canyon wall. I had to use my old trusty aoudad rifle, which is a .338 w/ a 200 grain Winchester soft point. It was some 30 minutes before i was able to wiggle my way down the canyon to him and found him very much alive still and not happy. A second shot to the chest claimed my trophy. He measures 31.5" and 13.5" bases and carries the mass verywell. I have been very fortunate to kill several nice aoudad ram and this one is no exception. I havn't scored him yet but I believe he is my best to date. I caped him out so I can half lifesize mount him and the head and cape was around 80 lbs. It was an extremely exhausting hike back all the way to the top of the canyon. When we reached camp I had to pick at the two other guys in camp for taking a nap.
