Just wanted to give a public shout out to Bowhuntermac who graciously invited me into his home, fed me a Flintsone-sized steak dinner that I'm still digesting, then took me to one of his waterfowl honey holes (albeit REALLY early in the morning) and treated me to a great morning of chucking steel at hapless things that go quack.
His lab Spanky makes Michael Phelps look like he may need water wings next time he enters the pool. I made a terrible shot (ok, 3 shots) on a duck that survived my pitifull onslaught but was no match for Spanky's water-treading ability, patience and determination. In fact, another waterfowler across the lake even yelled over "NICE retrieve!" as we welcomed Sir Spanky back into the blind. That, friends, takes some serious training, love and dedication to your dog...know what I'm saying?
It was a short drive, by Texas standards, (4 hours or so from Denver to Grand Junction), but went through Aspen on my way back and was in awe of the surroundings....John Denver got it right.
Long post and for that I appologize and yes this post stinks without pictures (forgot my camera), but the simple point is that Governor Middleton has created something that not only brings people of like minds together, he, perhaps unknowingly at first, has provided a place for people to make friends, grow business, feed bellys, sprits....and beyond.
Hats way off to Mac, perhaps the most dedicated hunter I've met, and to Michael and all the TBH folks. No doubt, the best is yet to come!
