I found some silk layers from REI. Anybody have experience with them? Also is that something you want loose fitting also, or tight to the skin?

Tight to the skin is fine, just not so tight that it creates pressure that could restrict circulation. When you sit down or bend your knees, you don't want something so tight that it digs in and pulls.
